Homeshare pilot launched
We’re pleased to announce the launch of our pilot Homeshare programme.
Homeshares bring together householders — such as older people who have a room to spare — with people who can offer a helping hand and company in exchange for affordable accommodation.
We have appointed Age Concern Auckland to manage a pilot, following a tender process late last year. Age Concern Auckland will begin recruiting homeowners and homesharers in the coming weeks, with the aim of establishing 40 to 50 Homeshares throughout Auckland the over the next 18 months.
The Office for Seniors is funding the Homeshare pilot as part of the Government’s Better Later Life Oranga Kaumātua 2019 to 2034 strategy. Our aim is to promote alternative housing options for older people, that allow them to ‘age in place’ safely and independently.
